Weekly Reflection
WEEK 4 - START OF NEW COVER ASSIGNMENT
This week we started our new cover assignment. We formed into two groups to record two covers. My group is made up of Frankie, Sienna, 2 Lachlans, Brayton,Ezra and I. We are undecided between 2 songs. "Under Pressure" and "Go your own way". Matt is also in our group but he is leaving us :( We were originally going to do 2 singers, flute, bass guitar , 1 accoustic guitar, drums and 1 rhythm guitar. But sadly we heard the news about COVID - 19 and we are only allowed one singer/wind instrument in our band. So Sienna our flute player chose to play bass guitar due to the covid restrictions and I changed to play keyboard which is going to be a challenge due to not knowing how to play.
WEEK 5 - PLANNING OUR STRUCTURE
This week we printed out lyrics and went through them and started to fiddle around with parts. We slowed down the song and either took out the 'um boo ba bay' parts or we made them instrumental. We cut out verse 5,6 and 7. Once we were decided on the structure we printed out chord sheets and shared out parts. My part was easier then everyone else to learn but it was hard for me because I had no idea how to play a keyboard. By the end of the week we decided we actually wanted to keep verse 7 so we printed out new lyric sheets because we scribbled over the old one and it got confusing.
WEEK 6 - PLAYING AROUND WITH INSTRUMENTS AND PARTS
This week we finally started practicing our parts individually. I started to learn keyboard but I found it very challenging. Miss helped me with the notes and chords. But I still found it very difficult. I joined with Lachlan on bass guitar to learn the first riff together. I found it much easier when he played the riff because it kept me in time and basically I could hear exactly when and where I had to play. I ended playing the riff for the first part of the song up to the pre - chorus. At the end of lesson we did one run through all together that sounded very bad but its fine because we still have 3 weeks of practice.
WEEK 7 - INSTRUMENTAL WEEK
This week we had music on Monday and Tuesday and due to Covid - 19 our lead singer frankie had to go get tested because she was ill. So she was away both Monday and Tuesday so we had two instrumental practices. It was hard because none of us really knew what speed we had to play to fit Frankies voice. So we decided we would just play at the pace the original was played in while Frankie was away just so we could actually practice and get an idea of what our cover was going to sound like.
WEEK 8 - LAST WEEK OF PRACTICE!
This week Frankie was back and we were all ready to start. We have to film our cover next Monday so we got to work straight away. I stuffed up a few times and on one of our lessons we forgot to get a microphone for Frankie so we couldn't really hear her. Turns out Frankie sings the song slower and more accousticly then the original so we all had to adapt to that and slow it down a fraction. The other group has fimed and it sounded amazing so we were quite nervous to be compared to them. We had 3 music lessons and the last two I can say proudly were pretty successful we sounded like a real band.
WEEK 9 - FILM! FILM! FILM!
This week was the week we had to finally film our cover. In my opinion I thought it would sound better if we had a little more time but it sounded great. We all put in 100% effort and did the best to our abilities! We filmed two serious versions and then one version where the other group back up danced. The silly one sounded the best for some reason. We were pretty thankful this cover was finally finished because it took so long and covid - 19 made it harder but we adapted and tryed our best and I personally think it turned out to be much betterthen we expected.
